LILY OF THE VALLEY CHILDREN’S VILLAGE

 

Project Objectives:

·        To express fellowship with and support for Christians in South Africa seeking to alleviate some of the effects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic on children

·        To give RLBC members a first-hand experience of caring for children living with HIV/AIDS and to build on the work and relationships established on our last visit in August 2004.

·        To work alongside Lily of the Valley staff caring for the children and helping with music and art lessons, computer lessons, sporting activities such as soccer and mini-olympics, assistance with school homework, telling Bible stories, teaching new songs and games etc.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is available free of charge to all the helpers either in the Volunteer House or the Conference Centre.

Suitable Team Members:

Christians who have professional or church experience of working with children or those who have a real concern for the emotional and spiritual needs of deprived children and wish to gain first-hand experience of working with children with HIV/AIDS. Lily of the Valley have stipulated a minimum of 18 for volunteers.

Time Commitment:

Approximately two weeks.

Likely Costs:

Return airfares to Durban are expected to be around £750. Foods costs will be around £80 for two weeks. Small gifts for the children and materials for activities. Sundry items (cost of travel into Durban etc) and personal spending.
